Universal Timing

I have to laugh when I plan my day hoping it will flow as easy as one, two, three. Then the universe gets a hold of the schedule and everything changes. Things happens out of order, yet it appears that everything gets accomplished when the time is right.

This can be frustrating because I am one of those people who wants things to happen in order. But I have experience this enough to let go of my expectations and allow things to unfold as they should, for the best possible outcome.

At the core of this is the expectation that we are in control, and we decide how things are going to play out. When the universe steps in, and rearranges our schedule, it humbles us. We realize that we are not in control and we are just a part of something much larger than what we see in the physical world.

It’s as if the universe is saying to us, we have something better for you, although you may not see it this way at first. When this happens, and we resist the change of plans, we slow the natural unfolding process.

I remember wanting to leave the house at a certain time for a road trip. As you would imagine the universe had other plans. But as it turned out, by leaving later than I wanted, I missed a wreck on the freeway. All I could think of was what if I had left when I originally wanted? Would I have been involved in that accident? I may never know, but that was one of the experiences that caused me to trust the universe when it comes to an unexplainable change of plans.

One thing that would make this easier for us, would be to learn to trust that everything works out for our best. This may be challenging to accept because we often struggle with situations that seem to have no reason or a unfavorable outcome.

Yet, if we look for the positive lessons in these types of experiences, we may become aware of the reasons why things changed as they do. We may not learn the lessons we need at the time if everything worked out according to our plan.

When my day was reorganized by the universe, I searched for the positive lessons. On that day I needed to learn patience. I was uptight because I wanted my day to flow as easy as A, B, C. . Once I realized I had little control over how things unfolded, I relaxed a bit and began to enjoy the moment. Understanding that we have little control over the outcome of our day, allows us to focus on what we are doing instead of what we should be doing.

I’m a big fan of intending the outcome of anything I do, even my day. Although I often finish an intention with the words, “Or something better”. This allows room for the universe to make adjustments and gives me flexibility in case there is a change of plans.

To make this easier, I have come to accept that there is something greater than just us in our physical body, walking around this beautiful planet. This something might be a source of consciousness that defies true understanding or an explanation that will make all people comfortable.

It may be difficult to let go of our plan or an intended outcome. But if we are aware, we may begin to notice that the universe, or whatever you would like to call it, just might have better plans for us than the plans we have made for ourselves. All we can do is let go, and trust the universe.

Are you comfortable when the universe changes your plans?

Each week I email an article to those who have subscribed to my weekly. This week I wrote about the cost of not living to the fullness of who we are. Here is an excerpt.

At some point in life, we will have to weigh the cost of the choices that align with our inner truth. For some, the cost may be too high, for others, the cost is justifiable. The journey of uncovering our authentic self is a solo journey, that’s a cost we must be willing to bear if we want to live our truth.

A bit of news. My wife and I will be moving from beautiful Colorado to the high grasslands of Southern Arizona. Colorado has been amazing to us, meeting many great people, discovering a part of ourselves we didn’t know existed, along with strengthening our relationship. I am forever grateful for those who helped us call this beautiful mountain valley home.

I will continue to write my weekly, my blog, my column for Conscious Shift Magazine as well as continue working on my next book. I’ll keep you posted, but for now, I’m somewhere between Colorado and Arizona.

In the May issue of Conscious Shift Magazine you will find my article,
